Direct and group conversationsFiles and voice notesPolls and starred messagesYour look, your space

Built around the things
you do every day.

A focused place to talk, organize and pick up where you left off.

A room for every group

Keep class discussions, project teams and personal conversations in their own spaces. Use replies to keep the context close.

More than a message

Share photos, documents, links and voice notes. Find shared material again from the conversation details.

Decide together

Use a group poll to choose a meeting time, collect opinions or settle the next step. Keep useful messages starred for later.

Keep your train of thought

Switch conversations without mixing up your text drafts. Drafts stay in this browser tab so you can come back and finish.

Your favourites, close by

Recently used emojis, stickers and GIFs stay within easy reach. Personalize your chat background and make the space feel familiar.

Updates on your terms

See when a new web version is available and apply it with the update button. Your text draft is carried through the update.

For students

Keep the whole group
on the same page.

Share reading material, compare notes and organize your next study session. One conversation for each class or shared project.

For professionals

Give every project
a place to move forward.

Bring the right people together, share documents and keep decisions easy to find — without mixing work into every conversation.

Clear about privacy

Your trust deserves
straight answers.

text.gs is in early access. We explain the protection available today and distinguish it from what is still being built.

Read the privacy policy

  • Encryption today. Connections use HTTPS and messages use server-managed encryption. Private messages are not yet end-to-end encrypted.
  • Moderation through reports. Admin message browsing and private-message search are disabled. Messages submitted in reports can be reviewed as evidence.
  • Control your account. Review active sessions and terminate devices you no longer use. Keep your account recovery codes somewhere safe.
  • A clear direction. True end-to-end encryption is planned. We will describe its scope and availability before asking you to rely on it.

Before you get started

A few useful answers.

Do I need to install an app?

No. Open the web app in your browser on a computer or phone. Our current development focus is the web experience.

Will I see example conversations when I sign up?

No. A new account starts with an empty conversation list. Use Start conversation to find someone or create a group.

Where are my drafts and recently used items saved?

Text drafts are kept in this browser tab, separated by conversation, for up to 24 hours and 20 conversations. Recently used emojis, stickers and GIFs stay on this browser, separately for each account. They do not sync between devices. File attachments are not saved as drafts.

How do I get the latest web updates?

When a new release is ready, the web app shows an update button. Use it to load the new version. Text drafts are preserved, but finish active calls, recordings and uploads first.

Can I use text.gs for highly confidential messages?

Current messages use server-managed encryption, so the service retains the ability to decrypt them. True end-to-end encryption is not yet available. Consider that limitation before sharing sensitive information.
